Of course, it’s always easy to approach a list like this with hindsight, but what we found so revealing is there are a few credit cards that consistently rank high while others easily – and quickly – fall to the wayside. There’s no doubt the competition among card issuers was intense this year and that will only continue into the new year as we all begin to hopefully put the past uncertainties of a weak economy behind us. As they say – out wit the old and in with the new.

Defining the Top Credit Cards of 2023

If there was anything that set this year apart, it’s the realization by many that not all credit card offers are created equal. In years past, consumers, as a whole, tended to find a credit card that met their general needs and then, without any further research, applied for, received and began to use their new cards. Now, though, we’re seeing more -and stronger – offers that have really changed the landscape as a whole. That’s most certainly a good thing for consumers.

The best credit card offers included extended 0% intro APRs, no annual fees, double and sometimes even triple rewards and, of course, ease of use. The interesting part is what one might believe is the best, there are those who disagree and have their own reasons why another credit card was a stronger choice. To be sure, all of the card companies – Discover, MasterCard, Visa and, of course, American Express really raised the far for themselves. There’s been a new wave of commitment to the their customers. So defining the best credit card offers? It’s simple: the best card offers are the ones that work well for the individual with no hidden fees, no difficulties in resolving problems and no complications when redeeming rewards.

Defining the Other Credit Cards

As many of these credit cards rose to the occasion, there were plenty that fell to the wayside and interestingly enough, it seems as though the celebrity-endorsed prepaid products really took a hit over the past year. Think about it – during the first couple of months of 2013, there was no shortage of celebrities who were touting the reasons why the prepaid products they put their signatures to were the best. Of course, we now know, that was hardly true. Instead, many abandoned those glossy cards in lieu of those with lower fee structures. The power of the consumer, right?

Also, there were a couple that made headlines for poor customer service and fees that had even us scratching our heads and wondering what these companies were thinking. Fortunately, consumers are better armed with information than ever before and any that would be labeled a bad credit product quickly disappeared from the headlines. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.

Just as each of us has our own “must have” credit card, we all have our own horror stories of those unethical cards, too.

Conclusion

We’ve stressed that it comes down to our individual needs. There’s no better way to explain it than with the story about the mother and daughter who were planning a vacation together. The daughter, in her efforts of finding a better credit card that would provide benefits on her vacation, chose a hotel rewards card. She was sure it was the strongest choice since her family would be vacationing in several areas around the country. A few weeks later, she was talking to her mom who told her all about the cash rewards credit card she’d just been approved for. Her reasoning was that this would help her feel as though her entire vacation came with a cash rebate. Clearly, their two choices were very different – even if their vacations were the same.
